What is “Web Design”?

Web design as opposed to “web development” refers more to the visual layout and graphic design of a website. A web-designer will have strong graphics skills as well as being able to code HTML and possibly javascript and flash. A good web-designer will also have an intuitive understanding of how a user will interact with a website to make site-navigation feel natural and user-friendly. Sometimes designers and developers are the same people, but more often the two will work side by side on different elements of a project.

Can we design your website?

Definitely. We pride ourselves on understanding the user or customer “flow” on the website. We believe the look, feel and navigation of a website should be simple, intuitive and guide the user subtly to the areas that our clients would like them to go to. We use the web technologies jQuery, javascript and Ajax together with a PHP codebase to ensure that we increase simplicity for the user and make the most of available “real-estate” without cluttering your site. Well placed drop-down menus, clever use of expansion and contraction areas, clear, direct and simple navigation methods are all part of our toolbox.

What is the process of designing a website?

We like to be involved with our clients on a personal basis and keep a good flow of communication throughout the life-cycle of a web-design project. We don’t believe in leaving our customers in the dark. We will help you scope out your ideas for your new website as well as informing you of web technologies or strategies that you may not have been aware of before. Once the initial idea is scoped out on paper, we will then liase with you about the customer/user journey, flesh out an appropriate design for the site and lay down our development plan with preliminary timescales. A continued consultation and adaption period will last the lifetime of the project, we are completely prepared to adapt and change as necessary. We achieve this by keeping everything in-house and not outsourcing to distant countries so our turnaround times are fast.

Our experience over the years has taught us what does and doesn’t work for users, how to make sites that work properly in different browsers (cross-browser compliance) and most of all, how to deliver to our clients an end result that surpasses their expectations.
